Maria's story
Maria was previously part of the Banco Comunal The Friendship Bridge for many years. Due to the constant growing of her business, she now needs to request an individual loan from Kiva. She is 38, married and with 4 children, one is studying in eighth grade and the others finished in ninth grade. Maria has 3 years of education and had to stop due to financial reasons. Her husband sells phone accessories.
Maria has earnt a living for the past 20 years raising criollo chickens and hens that she sells from her home. Additionally, for twelve years, Maria has been making smocks, straws and napkins, which she sells to order in three markets, delivering four hundred dozen each month, with the support of her husband and a son. She also rents a stall in Guatemala city where she sells phone accessories. The loan is to buy fabrics, thread and different coloured cloth with the aim of increasing her production and attending to new demands.
She lives in Totonicapán and speaks Kiché and Spanish. Maria will participate in the educational training programme “Puente al Éxito” from Friendship Bridge. The topics that will be taught are good business administration, the elaboration of an inventory and how to attend well to a client, which will help to grow her business.
