Mrs. Sreng is 40 years old and is a resident of the Prey Chor district of Kompong Cham Province. She earns a living raising ducks in a cage behind her house. She raises ducks to produce eggs and sells the eggs to people who come to buy them in bulk at her house. She is married and have four children who are not yet married and are still attending school. Her husband, Tan, earns revenue by cultivating rice crops on his own land. Mrs. Sreng has applied for a $1100 loan from Kiva’s partner HKL in order to pay for ducks and feed which she bought on credit.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
