Mujeres De La Rosa Group

Mujeres De La Rosa Group's story

Candida is twenty-two years old and married to her husband who is a day laborer. She left school and had her first child when she was sixteen years old. She is now the mother of two children who are five and six years old.

Four years ago, she started her business making delicious meals and selling firewood from her home in the department/state of Suchitepequez.

Her goals are to increase the size of the business and to open a casual clothing store. She is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy ingredients for her recipes as well as casual clothing.

Six women elected Candida to be Secretary of their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, “Mujeres de la Rosa.” All have the same businesses as Candida. Since they have little or no formal education, they appreciate the monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and health care services. Recent topics for the training were business administration, the risks of over-indebtedness, and the dangers of loaning one’s name to another person’s business. Other topics are about health, hygiene, nutrition, and self-esteem. Every other month, a nurse comes to their community and offers exams, consults, and family planning. These “plus” services are essential for their success, since the ladies have little or no formal education and health care services are challenging to access.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for lending a helping hand to Candida and her friends!
