Madeleine
Madeleine was born in Benin in 1976. She is married to Sosthène, a merchant. The spouses have four children, all attending school and in their care. Madeleine lives with her husband and her children. She shares household expenses with her husband. Madeleine never attended school.

To provide for her needs and those of her children, she sells spices (onions, garlic, peppers, etc.) and vegetable oil. She gets her supplies at one of the markets in Benin. Thanks to her income from this activity, she pays for the various family expenses. In order to continuously strengthen her activity level and increase her profit, Madeleine came to the microfinance institution Alidé and applied for a loan.

Née en 1976 au Bénin, Madeleine est mariée à un revendeur du nom de Sosthène. Le couple à quatre enfants, tous scolarisés et à leur charge. Madeleine vit avec son mari et ses enfants. Madeleine assure avec son mari les différentes charges de la maison. Madeleine n’a jamais été à l’école. Pour satisfaire ses besoins ainsi que ceux de ses enfants, Madeleine vend des épices (oignon, ail, poivron etc.) et de l'huile végétale. Madeleine s’approvisionne dans l’un des marchés du Bénin. Cette activité lui génère des revenus l’aidant à couvrir les différentes charges de sa famille. Dans l’optique de rehausser davantage le niveau de son activité et d’accroître son profit, Madeleine sollicite un crédit auprès de ALIDé.

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late.
