Luis Guillermo
Luis is 25 years old and he has had his retail business for 2 years. He sells cleaning supplies and products to the community stores and municipalities such as Palmar de Varela, Polonuevo, Malambo, Sabanagrande, and Baranoa. He has an employee to help him in his business to package 3 times per week. This small business belonged to his family and he used to be in charge of packaging the products. When he was given the family business Luis restarted his dream of making it grow and to strengthen it enough to convert it into a large business. For the past two years he has been able to increase his working capital but it is still insufficient to cover the increasing demand. For this reason he requests his first Kiva loan through Fundacion Mario Santo Domingo (Kiva Field Partner). With it he will purchase soap, toothpaste, deodorants, and disinfectants in larger quantities. He will be able to take advantage of discounts made on orders paid for in cash and in larger volumes. This is all in effort to expand his coverage to other municipalities in the department of Atlantico. He will also sell in retail and quantities that customers will be able to purchase, according to their ability to pay. Ninety percent of his sales are completed in cash and his gross profit margin is 21%. He collects payments on an 8 day cycle. His goal for the future is to have a large depot from where many vendors will take the products throughout the department of Atlantico. This is his great challenge.
