The formation of this committee was an initiative of Mrs. Carmen, who lives in Ciudad del Este. She got in touch with her neighbours and friends, telling them about this group of enterprising women, and they decided to form the committee in their zone. The committee currently has 16 members, of whom all participate actively and responsibly.
Mrs. Carmen is the General Director of the committee, and describes herself as a hard-working, responsible and modest woman who has always taken on this kind of responsibility--so this work is not new for her.
The group members sell all types of clothing. They are requesting this loan to increase the variety of their products, in order to be able to obtain garments for every season. This way they will be able to attract more customers, thus increasing their income.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
