A loan of $4,450 helps a member to buy organic fertiliser and products for cultivation.

Poderosas Group's story
Antonia is 26 years old and has been engaged in growing cardamom, beans and maize for nine years, which represents the main source of income to support her family. She sows from her own garden, and, during high season, employs 10 people to resow and clean the seeds. Antonia sells orders to different consumers within the state of Quiché.
She feels happy because she has been able to increase her demand. Antonia is married to a day labourer and has four children (14 months to 10 years), three are in kindergarten and in third grade. She dreams of continuing growing her cultivation, getting more income to help her husband and ensure a good quality of life for her children. That is why she requests this Kiva loan to buy seeds, biological and agricultural products to improve the quality and quantity of her crops.
The seven maya Q’eqchi women from the Banco Comunal de Friendship Bridge “Poderosas”, plan on investing capital into agricultural businesses (cardamom, corn and beans), selling chicken and French fries and convenience stores.
These women receive training as part of Friendship Bridge's “Microcredit Plus” programme, where they learn about saving and good investment. In addition, they receive bi-monthly visits from a nurse who provides all kinds of medical health services.
