Reuben is a farther of seven, all adults but with two still attending post secondary education. He has been in farming for 20 years and currently employs two farmhands. His farm produces tea, maize and milk. He has low-rental houses.
Reuben has made a loan request amounting to 70,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a dairy cow. He says the cow will provide milk for the family and provide more to sell for meeting other basic needs. He is focusing on building a dairy unit for his animals.
Reuben is however disturbed by the high cost of animal feed which he says is a challenge in dairy farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
