Zedy has been in mixed farming for 14 years, producing tea and milk and selling to the local market. She is married with three children aged between 7 and 11. Her family resides in the Litein area of South Rift Kenya where she does farming. She gets additional income from selling honey.
Zedy has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a dairy cow. She says the income generated will go toward paying the school fees for her children..She is focusing on acquiring pure breeds for better income generation in the future.
She notes the unreliability of milk prices is a great challenge owing to the fact that animal feed is expensive.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
