Francis has been doing mixed farming in the Nkubu area for 30 years. His farm produces maize, potatoes, cabbage and milk, which he sells to the local market. He is married with five children, four of whom are adults.
Francis has placed a loan request with Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a dairy cow. He says the dairy cow will improve his family's living standards and earn him more income to reinvest in the farming business. He intends to expand his dairy farm by buying at least two more dairy cows in three years.
Francis sees high costs and scarcity as his challenges in the farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
