Manos Trabajadoras Group

Manos Trabajadoras Group's story

Imelda is 35 years old, single, and lives with her parents and two siblings. Due to financial problems, she only finished 3 years of school, as she had to drop out to work and support her household.

For 8 years she has been managing a rented shop where she sells kitchen utensils and plastic furniture. She works with one of her sisters. Imelda also sells catalog products and has been making traditional tunics or blouses by order for the last 2 years.

Imelda is requesting this Kiva loan to buy more products to sell, especially tables and kitchen utensils. This will allow her to keep her store stocked for her customers. Imelda's goal is to continue strengthening her business and to generate more income so she can improve her family's financial situation.

Imelda is one of the members of the “Manos Trabajadoras” group, which is made up of another 8 women who speak K’iche’ and live in the department of Totonicapán. They share an entrepreneurial spirit and want to learn about business management and sustainable businesses growth as part of the “Microcrédito Plus” program from The Friendship Bridge.

Most of the group members raise and sell animals, make textiles, and manage convenience stores to generate income and support their families.

Thank you Kiva lenders for the support provided to the group!
