Vencedoras De Virginia 2 Group's story
Twenty-six-year-old Erica is the mother of four children ranging in age from three to ten, and has two years of formal education. She could not complete her education because her parents lacked funds. Her husband works in business. Three years ago, she started her own business making holiday confections popular in her area in the municipality of San Marcos. Two years ago, she added a business making tortillas to coincide with breakfast and dinner. Her relatives help her with the businesses, and Erica has a dream of opening a restaurant. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy cookies, marshmallows, fruit, corn, and gas.
Erica joined eight other women who live in her community, and formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Vencedoras de Virginia 2”. Some have the same businesses as Erica, while others sell casual clothing or work at their convenience stores. They meet monthly, make loan payments, and participate in an educational training program designed by a facilitator who uses pictures, diagrams, role-playing, and games to share the information. Recent topics have included effective business management practices, empowerment, and the risks of over-indebtedness. Other topics cover health, hygiene, nutrition, family matters, and women’s issues.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for lending a helping hand to Erica and her friends!
