Maleme Niani 3 Group's story

This group was created in 2012 and is composed of 15 members who all live in the same village. They have close connections and get along well with each other.

Madam Awa, standing at the right in the photo with her hand raised, is the group's representative. She is 51 years old, married, and mother of six children, including three daughters. Like most of the group members, Madam Awa is involved in small retail sales. She sells palm oil, dried fish, and vegetables that she buys in the large market nearby to sell in her neighborhood. She stocks up at the weekly markets. Her clientele is composed of women from her village.

The earnings generated by her business allow her to pay for her children's education and health care and to be able to put aside some savings.
