Bodesmus is a resident and a farmer in Kitale, in Western Kenya. He has been in farming for 5 years, producing and selling eggs and milk to the local market. He is married and has 2 children, aged 6 and 3. His eldest is already attending school.
Bodesmus has requested for a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo. He will use the funds to purchase poultry birds for 40,000 KES and to build a poultry unit at 20,000 KES. He believes the poultry project will provide for the family and enable him to educate his children.
Bodesmus says animal diseases are the greatest challenge in farming. He remains hopeful that he will be able to service the loan and acquire more.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
