A loan of $6,150 helps a member to buy more hens so that she can sell eggs by the carton.

Mujeres Conscientes Group's story
Mayca is a sixty-one-year-old mother of three grown children all over the age of thirty. Her son is developmentally disabled. Her oldest daughter died and so Mayca cares for her granddaughter who is eleven years old. Mayca is married to a government employee. She graduated from high school and was educated as a bilingual secretary. She worked in banks for fifteen years. Currently, she works for an organization that manages community projects and supplies food and tools for low income families so that they can improve the quality of their lives. Mayca shares, “I have been blessed to help so many other people.” She is well-regarded in her community in the department/state of Chimaltenango and known as a good leader.
For ten years, Mayca has farmed seasonal vegetables and sells the harvest from her home at the wholesale and retail level. She is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy more laying hens so that she can sell eggs by the carton. When the hens are no longer productive, she sells them and raises additional income to start another business. Her goal is to sell the eggs to stores and have an egg storage facility.
Mayca was elected President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Conscientes”. The nine members feel fortunate to participate in monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, educational training (family, women, health, business) and healthcare services.
Thank you, Kiva lenders! Happy Holidays!
