Unidas En El Crecimiento Group
A loan of $3,600 helps a member to buy more chicken as well as bananas and “maxan" leaves for making tamales.

Unidas En El Crecimiento Group's story
Thirty-five year old Mildra left school after the fourth grade, and worked as a cook in nearby homes for three years. She married a bricklayer when she was fifteen years old and had four children who now range in age from six to seventeen. All are enrolled in school.
One year ago, she started selling chicken by the pound, as well as banana and “maxan” leaves used for wrapping Guatemalan tamales. She places a real premium on her health because she has a lot of responsibility with her businesses and her children and needs to be well! Mildra is requesting her second Kiva loan to buy more chicken as well as bananas and “maxan” leaves.
Six Spanish-speaking women elected Mildra to be president of their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Unidas en el Crecimiento” or “United in Growth”. Most of them have the same businesses as Mildra while others sew clothing and sell firewood. Another bakes/sells bread. They look forward to monthly meetings when they make loan payments and participate in educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. Recent topics for the training have been about the importance of being responsible and punctual. Other topics are about health, nutrition, hygiene, self-esteem, the use of social media in one’s business as well as business management.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for lending a helping hand! And Happy Holidays to each of you!
