The Giri Puteri group is made up of 15 women who are neighbors in the same village in Melaya, West Bali. The group is seeking a loan of 30M IDR, and each member will receive 2M IDR. The group was formed out of these women’s common interest in raising pigs to supplement family income, and out of their interest in education on best practices for pig raising. This is their first loan with MUK.

Ni Made is the head of the Giri Puteri group. She is married and has one child, aged 7, first year in elementary school. Ni Made would like to help support her family with her pig raising business. She plans to use the loans to buy four piglets. She plans to sell the piglets after five months fattening. With the increase in household income, she hopes to be able to pay school fees and expand her economic life.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
