Mujeres Virtuosas Group's story

Thirty-five-year-old Jeneafer graduated with a diploma in business bookkeeping. She worked in a supermarket for two and one-half years and then left. She is single and living with a relative. Three and one-half years ago, she opened a convenience store in a rented space. Five months ago, she opened another store near a public swimming pool where she offers snack foods and beverages. She is open Tuesdays through Sundays. Her goals are to move the business into a space that is bigger and better suited for her business, and where she does not have to pay rent. She will use her second Kiva loan to restock the two stores and buy beverages, corn, bathing attire, and life jackets.

Jeneafer joined seven other women who also live in a community in the department/state of Suchitepequez. They sell tortillas, firewood, prepared meals, or work in their convenience stores. They meet monthly, make loan payments, and participate in educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and healthcare. The educational training, designed and taught by a Facilitator, covers everyday topics related to health, hygiene, nutrition, family matters, and women’s issues. Healthcare services are provided on a bi-weekly basis by a nurse who offers exams, consults, and family planning. These “plus” services are essential for their success.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for lending a helpful hand! Jeneafer and her friends in the Trust Bank appreciate your generosity!
