Mujeres Activas 2 Group's story

30-year-old Leidy, a mother of two children who are 7 months and 7 years of age, was educated as a kindergarten teacher. She is married to a day laborer. 11 years ago, she opened a business preparing and selling regional dishes by custom order and as a street vendor. Two of her sisters help her. She also makes handicrafts by custom order. She started this second business eight years ago.

Leidy wants to remodel her home in the department/state of Suchitepequez. She requests her first Kiva loan to buy pots, pans, and cutlery.

Six women elected Leidy to be President of their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, “Mujeres Activas 2”. These ladies manage their convenience stores, raise animals, sell prepared meals, cheese, and firewood. They look forward to monthly meetings where they make loan payments and participate in interactive educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program, which provides loans, education, and healthcare. Recent topics for the training have been about hygiene, personal care, savings, and the risks of over-indebtedness. Other topics concern nutrition, health, and business. Every other month, a nurse visits their community and provides exams, consults, and family planning.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your kindness in funding these much-appreciated loans!

Leidy and her friends are opening doors to more successful futures with your kind help!
