Las Corredoras De Jocotenango Group's story
Starting a business is a very profitable and accessible option for entrepreneurs. This has been the case for Miriam, who started selling products through catalogs 25 years ago. One year ago, she opened a second business selling delicious crepes with fruit. Miriam sells in a sales space in the local market. She is 72 years of age, separated, and the mother of four children (22 years and older) who all have a complete secondary education. Miriam is a great example of a strong woman, motivated to forge a better future for herself, her children, and her six grandchildren. She graduated from the university, but never worked in her profession. She hopes to use her first Kiva loan to buy ingredients such as milk, strawberries, nuts, granola, and snacks.
The communal bank “Las Corredoras de Jocotenango” of Friendship Bridge includes seven Spanish-speaking women who live in the department / state of Sacatepéquez. These women sell jewelry, catalog products, food, and baked goods. They are happy to participate in the "Microcrédito Plus" program, which offers loans, monthly educational training (health, family, women's issues, and business) and bi-monthly medical services (exams, consultations and family planning). These "plus" services are essential for their success as women, mothers, and businesswomen, because many have little or no formal education and accessing medical attention can be difficult.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for financing these loans.
