Mujeres Emprendedoras Group's story

"Sometimes life doesn't offer an easy path, but it does offer the opportunity to start anew with courage," shares Greceira.

She is thirty-five years old, married, and a mother of three children (aged 9 to 19). Her schooling was interrupted by the death of her father, but through hard work, she resumed her studies at an adult school, completed the sixth grade, and earned a diploma in tailoring.

For fifteen years, she has been making dresses, skirts, and uniforms by order, supported by two of her children. She also buys live chickens to sell meat wholesale and retail, offers eggs, and occasionally prepares traditional food.

With her first Kiva loan, Greceira will buy fabrics and threads, eggs, and chickens to fulfill important orders. Her goal is to strengthen her business, open a storefront, and establish a workshop that will generate employment in her community.

Greceira is the treasurer of the "Mujeres Emprendedoras" Communal Bank, a Friendship Bridge group located in the department of Suchitepéquez. The group is composed of seven Spanish-speaking women. They share an entrepreneurial spirit that drives them to improve their lives. Most are dedicated to selling snacks, machine sewing, and raising domestic animals.

Thanks to Friendship Bridge's "Microcrédito Plus" program, they receive training in sound business administration, preventative health, and family finances, which strengthens their skills and contributes to the economic development of their communities.
