A loan of $4,325 helps a member to buy a variety of products for the store as well as clothing.

Las Bendecidas Chiabal Group's story
Glendy is 30 years old. She is married to a construction worker. She is the mother of three children (ages 4 -13). She is also very busy with three businesses. She opened a convenience store ten years ago. Six years ago, she started selling casual clothing on the street. She also raises animals (chickens, turkeys and pigs). Glendy relies on one of her daughters to help run the businesses. She went to school for three years. Glendy is proud of being able to send her three children to primary school. She is requesting the first Kiva loan to buy inventory for the store and clothing, so her customers can depend on her for the items they need.
In the “Las Bendecidas Chiabal” Friendship Bridge communal bank, there are seven Spanish-speaking women who are participating in the Microcrédito Plus program with loans, education and medical attention. They live in the highlands of the Huehuetenango department/state. The women raise animals, manage their convenience stores, sell casual clothes, sell chicken by the pound and prepare delicious regional foods. They hope to gain new knowledge in the monthly meetings where they also provide mutual support, make the loan repayments and participate in educational training. The topics range from health and hygiene to basic business management tools.
Thanks, Kiva lenders, for meeting women like Glendy and funding these much-needed loans!
