Lor-Ae
A loan of $7,725 helps to buy organic hens and organic feed.

Lor-Ae's story
Lor-Ae is a 47-year-old member of the Akha tribe living in Wawee Village in the hills of Northern Thailand, near the Myanmar border. He is asking for a loan to purchase 900 hens to produce organic free-range eggs for Hilltribe Organics (HTO), the social enterprise which created the market for organic free-range eggs in Thailand, using organic agriculture to help poor farmers like him out of poverty. This will be his 4th loan with Kiva for his HTO egg farm.
Before he started with HTO, Lor-Ae grew conventional vegetables on his family land and was barely able to make ends meet. Caring for his hens and selling their eggs provides him and his family with continuous monthly income and allows him to have a respectable life. "Hilltribe Organics" was named The Most Sustainable Farming Model in Thailand in 2022 by the Thailand Department of Livestock Development and won the 2022 global Sustainable Food Farming Award from UK NGO Compassion in World Farming.
