Liderezas De Panajachel Group's story
At 49 years old, Miriam demonstrates that strength and determination can transform any challenge. She is a divorced mother to four children, and she has been the pillar of her family for years. With training an as expert accountant and 29 years of experience, Miriam managed to start a business selling meals and baked goods that she has maintained for 16 years. She fills orders from her home, and with the help of her children, delivers them to her customers' homes, developing a stable source of income. Miriam is seeking her first Kiva loan to buy ingredients and a new stove that will allow her to expand her production. Her dream is to open a formal restaurant and keep generating development opportunities for her family.
Miriam was elected as the president of her communal bank with The Friendship Bridge which is comprised of 6 women who speak Spanish and 3 who speak Kaqchikel. The women work in businesses including convenient stores, artisan work, food production, lingerie sales, and computer sales. They engage in monthly workshops about administration, business, and preventative health to strengthen their capacity to grown. This is part of the program Microcrédito Plus which combines financing, education, and medical attention. The themes are relevant to their lives and are extracted from four areas: health, family, women, and business.
