La Ceiba El Jabali Group's story
Twenty-seven-year-old Neyda has three children ranging in age from three to ten. She was only able to attend school for six years because her parents lacked the financial resources for her to continue. Her husband is employed on a banana farm in the department/state of Escuintla.
Seven years ago, she opened her catalog business selling personal care products, and then two years later, she added a business cooking and selling delicious regional foods three days per week as a street vendor. Her mother helps her with this business. Her goal is to have her own storefront. She requests her first Kiva loan to buy lotions, shampoos, body creams, and disinfectants.
Neyda is President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank, "La Ceiba El Jabali." There are seven other women in the group who sell regional foods, tortillas, and catalog products.
They benefit greatly from monthly interactive educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. Recent topics for this training have been hygiene and first aid. Other topics are chosen from four areas that include health, business, family matters, and women’s issues. Often, Neyda and her friends share what they learn with family members and friends.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for your kindness and your generosity! These women are quite grateful for your much-appreciated support!
