Stephen has been in active farming for three years in the Nkubu area of Central Kenya. His farm produces fruits, mainly bananas and passion fruit and milk. He is aged 26 and single.
Stephen has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to expand his fruit farming business, especially his bananas and passion fruit acreage. He hopes increasing the acreage under fruits through cultivation will increase his income and make him financially stable enough to start a family. He also intends to venture into a transport business in the future.
Stephen notes that an insufficient supply of water and diseases are the main farming challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
