María is a 53-year-old Spanish-speaking shopkeeper who lives in the rural area of the department and state of Suchitepéquez. She has over 15 years of business experience; her principal business is making and selling delicious food which she sells from her own stall. Five years ago Maria opened a convenience store, also known as a grocery store. She sells a wide variety goods essential for the home.

Maria is married to a farmer and has three children aged 23-46 who have a grade three or secondary education. Two of her daughters are married, and Maria has four grandchildren. Her daughters provide regular help running the business.

Maria is approaching Kiva lenders with confidence to ask for her first loan to buy a cold storage room, basic supplies, drinks and snacks. These purchases will guarantee that Maria maintains her inventory, improves availability of fresh products for her customers, and contributes to the growth of her store, thus ensuring a stable income for her family.

As well as accessing the loan, Maria will receive business training in order to develop her businesses. Topics such as Administration, Inventory, Customer Service are fundamental parts of the Friendship Bridge program "Door to Success".

Thank you to Kiva lenders for getting to know Maria and for the financial support that impact lives.
