Marta Julia's story
Marta speaks Spanish and lives in the rural area of the central highlands of Guatemala in the department of Chimaltenango. She has three years of business experience. Marta is a single mother of four children, ages from 9 to 30. Her three grownups are independent and managed to study until the 9th grade. Two of her children are married and she is a proud grandmother of four. Her youngest child lives with her and is in the 2nd grade of elementary school. She was only able to study six grades due to the parents’ lack of resources.
She is a passionate cook who makes and sells tortillas, chicken, and French fries at a rented shop. Marta offers quality dishes that satisfy her customers and, in this way, generates a constant income for her family. At the same time, she raises chickens that she then slaughters to sell by the pound. A year ago, Marta opened her third business, a grocery store at a place of her own.
She comes in with trust asking for her first Kiva loan that will help her to buy products for her store, such as beverages, groceries, and snacks.
Decided to boost her businesses, Marta joined for the first time the program “Puente al Éxito”. In this program, she will receive personalized training. The operative goal of the program is self-sufficiency, strengthening trust, and becoming a driver for businesses.
Thank you Kiva lenders for supporting businesses like Marta’s!
