The AMAZONAS community bank, associated with Centro Senkata, is embarking on its first round of funding from Pro Mujer. The group's eight members are lead by a board headed by Sra. Maria. The members of the group operate businesses ranging from commerce to manufacturing to services.

Sra. Maria says that this is the first time she has worked with Pro Mujer. She joined after a door-to-door campaign. She has operated a business making and selling blankets for fifteen years.

She will use the loan to buy the supplies she needs to operate the business (materials for making blankets). She plans to buy bulk supplies of everything she needs on Calle Rodriguez (a commercial area of La Paz) and make blankets to order. The business provides her with a means to help her husband with their daily expenses.

When we asked her what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answered that she likes working with a team.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
