“Baptiseurs Plus” is a group of 11 owners of small businesses chaired by Noel. Its members are jointly liable for loans granted by Kiva to grow their businesses.

Noel’s main activity is to sell general hardware at the market located west of Kinshasa. He started his business in 1993 selling second hand clothing with a beginning capital of US $10. Due to the high demand for general hardware, Noel decided to change his business in order to generate more profit and achieve his dream to someday become a hardware provider in his community.

Having repaid his previous seven loans properly from the MFI HOPE DRC, he intends to use his next loan to buy more general hardware and resell them at profit in order to generate additional profits. Currently, Noel makes a profit of US $50 per week. He is 43 years old, married and has five children aged 3 to 14. Four of them attend school.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
