There are many Cambodians who make their living as rice farmers, and one of them is Koeut, 43 and married, who has been working at this since 1990 in the Baray district of Kompong Cham province. This humble couple has four children; three are students and one is married. Two of them are working at a factory and have regular salaries each month.

Koeut and her husband grow rice on the farmland that they inherited from their grandparents. From their rice farm they can generate an income of around $3 per day. In order to increase their income, Koeut has applied for a $600 loan to buy a motorbike for her husband so he can run a motor taxi service.
