This has helped them to earn an income for their home and to provide for their families. They live in different locations in the city of Cuenca. This city is irrigated by 4 rivers which is the origin of the name Santa Ana de los 4 Rios, meaning Santa Ana of the 4 Rivers. Its historical centre was named as a national cultural heritage site in 1999. The people retain their culture and traditions.

Blanca lives in the sector of Totoracocha in the city of Cuenca. She is 39 years old and she is the single mother of 5 children, aged 20, 16, 11, 9 and 3. Her eldest child works and it is he who helps her financially. Her second child is in high school, and her third and fourth child is in primary school in the city. She does not own a house of her own, which is why she rents.

Blanca has been a fruit and vegetables merchant in the city's market for 20 years. She works from Sunday to Sunday from 7 in the morning until 6 in the evening from her own stand. When there are soccer games she sells confections in the stadium.

She has been with her communal bank for 2 years and her new loan will be invested in the purchase of fruits and vegetables for her business.

Her dream is to have a house of her own.

At this time Karina is pictured with our group. She is the communal bank credit agent. She is seated among the members, wearing a white blouse.
