Mrs. Phat is a 44-year-old farmer who lives in Kompong Cham Province. Mrs. Phat is married to Mr. Horn, age 54. This couple, who work together in the rice-planting business, have a child who works in the farming business as well.
Because the rainy season is approaching, Mrs. Phat wants to grow more crops on her own farmland. As she lacks the money to do this, Mrs. Phat has decided to request a loan from Kiva. Mrs. Phat will use these funds to plant corn and sesame.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
