Irene comes from the village of Minadze, Akhaltsikhe District. She lives with her two sons (15 and 20 years old) and mother-in-law (74 years old). Irene works as a cook in the local military office. Her salary is 155 Laris per month. Her younger son goes to school and the elder one serves in the army as a contractor. Along with her regular job, Irene also leads the agricultural business of the family: She cultivates 0.5 ha of the family-owned land and grows potatoes and other vegetables. Harvested products are sold locally. In addition, the family owns three milk cows and two calves. Irene produces traditional Georgian cheese from the gathered milk and sells it in the village.
With the requested loan, Irene will purchase calves to raise and sell in the fall for a higher price. The increase in profits will be used for equipping their house with new household goods, in order to make it comfortable.
