Benson is aged 49 and married. He has two adult children. Benson has been practicing mixed farming for the last 14 years and employs one farmhand. His farm is currently producing milk, maize, vegetables and beans, which he sells to the local market. He also owns a motorbike that provides transport services to the local people.
Benson has made a loan request of 62,400 KES through Juhudi Kilimo in order to purchase and insure a dairy cow. He hopes that, with the dairy cow he will acquire, his milk production will increase and this will increase his income as well. The extra proceeds from this loan will help him to improve his family's livelihood.
He faces the challenge of lack of enough dairy feed, which affects his production. He plans to improve his dairy farming in future by increasing the number of his dairy cows.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
