Mrs. Sem is 41 years old and a resident in Prey Chor district of Kompong Cham Province, where she raises chickens for meat and eggs. She is married with two single children, one of whom is a student who studies in public school, while the other works as a seamstress. Her husband’s name is Mr. Yang who works with her in the business. Mrs. Sem has applied for a loan from Kiva’s partner HKL in order to purchase additional feed and materials to repair the chicken cage.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
