Janet, 40, is a farmer from the town of Murang'a in central Kenya. She has been farming for the past 20 years and employs two farmhands. Her mixed farm produces milk, which is sold to Brookside Dairies, and tea which she sells to Kenya Tea Development Authority. She depends on the income from her farm to cater for the basic needs of her family.
Janet has made her first loan request of 50,000 Kes through Juhudi Kilimo to purchase chickens and chicken feed, and to construct a chicken unit. The proceeds from this project will increase her household income and improve their livelihood. She plans to have more than 2000 chickens in the next 5 years, despite the challenge of diseases in the area. She is happy to be financed through Juhudi.
