She sells empanadas and hot chocolate that she prepares herself as an itinerant street vendor. Gladys has the support of her children who are currently working as interns. In addition, she also rents out some rooms in her home to university students since her home is near a university that is very popular with young people from the center of the country.

In order to make her work producing the products that she sells easier, Gladys will invest her loan money in buying a food processor. The 'Los Triunfadores del Rimac' community bank is one of the first in the program in this area and its members are always demonstrating their desire to get their families ahead in life. They are grateful for the support they are receiving for their businesses.

In the photo, all the members of the bank are present, including some of their children. The only member who was absent, for work reasons, was Cesar.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
