Maria Auxiliadora
View original language description ↓
Maria Auxiliadora started her business with a loan that she took out along with her mother, who she accompanies every day to sell oranges in an open air market, starting very early in the morning.

As time went on and because this business has allowed her to support her family, she decided to ask for a loan from CEPRODEL. So far she has been able to put a small stand in the market, although not in very good condition, but at least it has allowed her some shelter during inclement weather.

Although she currently has a small area in the market with a plastic tarp overhead, she hopes one day that the condition of her stand will improve and that her children will be able to attend school.

The financial support of CEPRODEL has been the economic pillar that has allowed for the development of her business, and for improvement to the quality of life of her family, and she hopes that conditions at her stand will improve little by little.

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
