Adriana María
Adriana was employed for 19 years in a food distribution firm. However, the owners had to liquidate the business giving their employees the opportunity to continue operating the locales where the business used to be. Since then, Adriana was able to start her own business which is located in Itagüí, a town in the Medellín Metropolitan Area.

Adriana is a micro businesswoman who works daily from 8am until 7pm with the hope of gradually increasing business. She feels fortunate to be independent because she not only generates income for her family’s sustenance but she is forming a legacy so that in the future this could become a family business. Adriana is the mother of two children and she dreams with providing them with a better quality of life.

Currently, with the hope of seeing her chicken sales grow, Adriana must stock a certain amount of products that generate higher profits and which will help her store stand out. However, she does not have the necessary capital to make this investment so needs a loan.

Durante 19 años Adriana trabajó en un negocio de distribución de alimentos donde se desempeñaba como operaria, sin embargo, sus dueños tuvieron que liquidar el negocio dándole la oportunidad a sus empleados de quedarse en frente de los locales donde anteriormente funcionaba dicho negocio. Desde entonces, Adriana vio la oportunidad de emprender su propio negocio, el cual se encuentra ubicado en Itagüí, municipio del Área Metropolitana de Medellín.

Adriana es una microempresaria que trabaja diariamente de 8:00 a.m a 7:00 p.m. con la ilusión de hacer crecer poco a poco su negocio y se siente afortunada por se independiente, ya que así no solo genera ingresos para el sustento de su familia, si no que dejará un legado para que en un futuro éste sea un negocio familiar, Adriana es madre de 2 hijos y sueña con darles una mejor calidad de vida.

Actualmente, con la esperanza de ver crecer su punto de venta de Pollo, Adriana debe surtir cierta cantidad de productos que le generen mejores utilidades, y que de alguna manera le den posicionamiento al local, sin embargo ella no cuenta con el capital para hacer esta inversión por lo que necesita de un préstamo.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
