Heng E. is a 31-year-old mother who has two children, who are still young and attend school. Heng E. is a domestic rice cultivator in Kompong Cham province. She has been working in this sector since she was single. In order to generate more income, Heng E.’s husband works in construction. Heng E. has applied for a loan from Kiva’s partner HKL in order to purchase piglets, chicken, and feed and to build a new cage for her animals. Heng E. believes she can increase her daily income by using Kiva.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
