Chroeung
Chroeung K. is a 40-year-old married woman who resides in the province of Kompong Cham. Chroeung K. is blessed with four school-aged children. She earns a living by planting various crops on her own farmland. She now plants a potato crop, which she will harvest and collect when they are mature. She always brings her items to sell in the local market. The size of her land is very small and she wishes to enlarge it in order to build a new house on it. Because of insufficient money, Chroeung K. is requesting a loan from Kiva to purchase a plot of land that she will use to build a new house.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
