The woman in this photograph is Mao S.. She is 24 years old and lives in the province of Kompong Cham, which is the best territory for farming. Mao S. is a married woman who is devoted to her two young children who are attending school and who depend on her care.
Mao S. owns a big farm that she inherited from her grandmother and grows various crops on it. She also has another farm that she owns, but she is not planting crops on it yet. She hopes to use her Kiva loan to hire a machine to plow her farmland and to purchase bean seeds, insecticides and fertilizer to grow crops.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
