This group is called "Las Hormigas de Tolcayuca" (The Ants of Tolcayuca) because, for the members of this group, ants symbolize work. The group's members consider themselves to be enterprising, hard-working and responsible women both amongst themselves and with their families. The group is located in the State of Hidalgo, in Mexico. It has nine members, each of whom is an enterprising woman with an already established business.

Agustina Viviana R. is the group's treasurer. She is 27 years old and has an elementary school level of education. She sells brand-name clothes, specifically lingerie, through a catalog. She has been in this business for approximately two years and is therefore well known by her customers as a responsible person who is attentive to other people. She decided to start this business as it is easy to sell to her customers and because it allows her to have time free to attend to her household duties and also make extra income which allows her to support her children in their studies and provide them with a better quality of life. Agustina has three children aged 9, 8 and 8 months. Two of her children are currently in school.

Agustina will use her loan to buy merchandise and catalogs for the Spring-Summer season.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
