Saumu is a married woman with one child who graduated from school. She lives at her own house that has electricity and piped water. Her greatest monthly expense is the electricity bill.
For the past eight years, she has operated a charcoal selling business, she sells from home to her neighbors and passersby. Saumu not only operates a charcoal selling business but also owns real estate, which contributes to her other source of income. She faces a major challenge of seasonality in her business.
With the Kshs 60,000 loan request, she wants to purchase 10 sacks of charcoal and firewood for sale. She decided to join Yehu to gain access to loans that will boost her business.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
