Annah is a resident of Kitale Town in Western Kenya. She is married, with seven children aged between 35 and 16 years. Three of them are still in school. She has been farming for over 10 years, selling her produce of milk and tomatoes in the local market.
Annah has made a request for a loan of 51,600 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow with 41,600 KES and to buy poultry chicks for 10,000 KES. She says this acquisition will help increase her asset base and provide for the family's basic needs. She is focusing on having eight dairy cows and becoming the main milk supplier in the area. This is her second loan request through Juhudi Kilimo.
Some of the challenges Annah faces are the high cost of artificial insemination, and animal diseases.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
