Rosa M. is a member of the Aguacate ("Avocado") Communal Bank. She lives in the community that bears the same name as the community bank in the city of Cuenca, a city also known as "Santa Ana of the Four Rivers." Due to its beauty and colonial architecture, it was recognized as a cultural heritage site in 1999. Its people are very warm and friendly.

Rosa is 29 years old and married with four children, who are ages 14, 11, 6 and 3. Her oldest daughter is a high school student and the second and third are students in a little school in the city. Her husband works in construction as a mason. They do not own their own home and instead are renters.

Rosa worked cleaning houses for a month but prior to this had a cookhouse (restaurant) that had to close because it was located on a banned site. Now she will reopen this business in a new location.

This is her third loan cycle with the communal bank and the proceeds will be invested in establishing the new restaurant.

Her goal is to reestablish and grow the business so as to one day own her own home.
