She grows vegetables, and she has five years of experience in this field. She started planting only one “cuerda” (approximately 70 meters) of land. She currently wants to increase her production.

Therefore she decided to organize a group to request a loan. The loan will be used as working capital to prepare the land for cultivation and to buy seeds. This will increase the vegetable production. Her husband, a farmer, helps her.

The members of this group devote themselves to farming. One of them raises cattle. With the investment they are making they hope to increase their earnings and improve their living conditions.

About Asociación ASDIR

ASDIR (Asociación de Desarrollo Integral Rural - Association for the Development of Rural Communities) is a community-based organization that works to promote development in the villages and communities where it serves. It was founded in 1999 in the village of Nimasac, Totonicapán Department, by a handful of local men and women to support community projects and group loans. Today ASDIR has 5 offices across 3 departments (Totonicapán, Sololá and Suchitepéquez) serving more than 6,000 clients, most of them in rural communities.
