Vepkhia T. comes from Japana, a small village in the Guria Region. He is 44 years old, married and lives with his wife Tamar, nine- and 10-year-old sons and his mother. Agriculture is the only source of income for the family.
Vepkhia and Tamar run a small dairy farm with six milk cows and sell approximately 100 kg of traditional Georgian cheese per month in a nearby town. Also the family owns a 1.5 ha plot of land where vegetables, maize, and watermelon are grown. Harvested grain, fruits and vegetables are sold locally to wholesalers. From all the above-mentioned activities the family earns approximately 650 Laris per month.
With the requested credit Vepkhia plans to purchase fertilizers, watermelon seeds, and cultivate the land.
The income received from watermelon sales will be used for the renovation of their house.
