Ghulam Fatima's Group
Ghulam is a very supportive lady who sells bed-sheets to share the financial burden with her husband. She also does her household responsibilities very well and takes care of her children. She has given birth to four daughters. Two of them are studying while others are not of school-going age yet.
She has applied for a loan from Kiva partner Asasah to improve her husband’s business selling fruits. He started this business 13 years ago. He operates his business in a busy market in the city and offers different seasonal fruit varieties to his customers. He has a good name in the market for his good customer dealings and reasonable rates. Using the loan, he will put more variety of fresh seasonal fruit in his shop for resale.
Ghulam is hopeful that the loan investment will take her husband’s business to a more profitable position which will help her family to live a better life financially.
This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
